| | Well, hello, and welcome to 2007. Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm a bit late in welcoming you but so what. Nobody has been paying attention around here for a while anyway. If we harken back to early 2006, we can see that I had something of a plan for 2006. Part of it was to lose some weight. As I say in that post, I was 205 lbs and wanted to get to 190 lbs. So how'd I do, you ask? Well, I'm currently 220 lbs. So....not so good. However, I basically blame my friends. NicHul and Xtrosity both got married in 2006 and I had to eat well at their weddings -- it would be rude, otherwise, right? Plus, mozzarella sticks are just too good to refuse. You know, come to think of it -- we have scientists/engineers coming up with seedless watermelons and sweeteners that look and taste like sugar but aren't sugar and dozens of other things I'm not thinking of... and yet we can't come up with diet mozzarella sticks? Come on, people. Find an oil you can deep-fry things in that doesn't nearly kill you once you're over 30. Get to work. Looking back further, how did I do on what I said I'd do for 2005? Well, I listed three things: learn to play bass guitar, graduate from my Masters program, and write a book. I definitely can (sort of) play the bass now, having performed once in front of about 50-60 people and gotten together with some guys from work to jam a bunch more times. I also did graduate back in May 2005, as planned. However, I still haven't written a book. And it's sort of sad that I said I wanted to do this over two years ago and had been thinking about it a lot longer than that. Time keeps rolling and is never on your side. So for 2007 why be original and come up with new plans for the year? Especially, since, you know, I claim I don't make New Year's Resolutions, anyway. No, what I'll resolve to work on the previous resolutions and maybe add a few more as needed. To that end, I've begun a new approach to reducing my fatness. My darling Watersyne swears that Weight Watchers and their point system is best way to go and, in theory, I agree. It teaches you portion control which is such a huge part of the battle. We'll see how it works for me. I'm off to a good start and will again do my best to semi-publicly announce how I'm doing. As for the book...well, we'll see. I still have what I think are some good ideas but I waste so much of my creative efforts online (both here and at Boiled Sports) that I wonder how I would go about doing that. If it means a reduction in commentary here, you'll be the first to know. Oh, and I resolve to get a new ring for my left hand this year. |
